How It Works

How SpotMyLost Works

SpotMyLost is designed to make the lost-and-found process simple, safe, and community-driven. Whether you have lost an item or found something, this guide explains exactly how to use the platform.

If You Have Lost an Item

If your item is missing, the first step is to check whether someone has already posted it.

  • Open the Browse Reports page
  • Select your city or nearby location
  • Choose a category (Wallet, Mobile, Documents, etc.)
  • Check the list of found items
🔍 If you see a possible match, contact the finder directly using the details provided in the report.
✅ Finder may ask for verification such as date of birth, father’s name, last 4 digits of card, or a unique detail to confirm ownership.
If You Have Found an Item

If you find a wallet, ID card, phone, keys, or any personal belonging, you can submit a report easily.

  • Go to the Submit Report page
  • Enter item details, location, and your contact number
  • No documents or proof uploads required
  • Your report becomes visible instantly
📝 Clear details increase the chance of the rightful owner identifying the item quickly.
Verification Before Handover

Before returning an item, always verify that the person claiming it is the real owner.

  • Date of birth (for IDs)
  • Father’s or mother’s name
  • Last 4 digits of card number
  • Unique scratch, sticker, or mark
  • Where the item was last used
❗ Never ask for or share full card numbers, OTPs, PINs, passwords, or sensitive documents.
Safe Handover Methods

Recommended public locations:

  • Metro station or security desk
  • Mall entrance or security area
  • Police booth
  • CCTV-covered public places

Handover without meeting:

  • Indian Post (Speed / Registered)
  • Courier services (DTDC, Delhivery, BlueDart)
📦 Always verify address, keep the tracking number, and never pay or accept money to “release” an item.
Conclusion

SpotMyLost connects honest people with owners searching for their lost belongings. The process is simple: report → search → verify → safe handover.

Our mission is to help people recover what they have lost with trust, clarity, and community support.
